Running
I'm starting to get back into the swing of things with the running.  I've always been afraid of winter running, and I guess it's completely irrational because except for my fingers, there's no part of me that gets cold.

I've been doing fairly short distances, in the range of 2-3 miles at a time, but I'm building up.  It's not so much an endurance thing as it is a body thing... In 2008 when I was really getting into the running, I developed a shitty case of plantar fasciitis, and it took me well over half a year to recover.  I'm hoping that I can really make a consistent thing out of it this time around, rather than being so stop-and-go about it.

I signed up for a MiniCourse in Woodworking at the Memorial Union today, which will be fun.  6:30-9:30pm on Mondays for a month starting early February.  Plus, I get to use the craftshop during that time to work on my cabinets for the house!

In other news, I've been really productive lately.  I finished up the wiring project at the new house, got some work done regarding fixing some minor things that came up on the inspection report, did a lot of my "winter accounting" for Gorham Street Productions, and have just generally been doing things in stride, rather than letting them build up.

This weekend, I'm helping a friend build a garage and workshop.  He's been touring with 311 as their massage therapist for over a decade, and he works privately as a massage therapist here in town in between tours.  He's building a 2 car garage, and adding a massage studio above the garage so that he has a place to work and doesn't have to lug his table everywhere.  For helping him build the garage, he'll be willing to work on my back and also give me a hand with some of my projects at the new house, so it's a win-win!

Finally, in a week and a half I take off for Colorado for some skiing!  I'm looking forward to it, this winter I've kept so busy that I haven't even touched my skis yet!

Is your friend here in Madison (city proper)? If so, make sure he has his permit ducks in a row regarding the business aspect in the garage. The city has been hassling a local artist about something similar (restrictions on businesses in "accessory buildings" within residential zoning). The Isthmus had an article on it a few weeks back: http://www.thedailypage.com/isthmus/article.php?article=27212

Denny definitely has his building permits, etc. but I will ask him to check into this. One thing that helps is that he's actually technically in Middleton, which seems to be less draconian about these things.

Oh, good. Sounds like the city of Madison is the real problem in the above situation. Even if they change the zoning for the future, this guy is still getting hassled now. Laaaaame.

Uh... slipping on ice and falling on your butt is a pretty rational fear.
People don't clear the sidewalks, and then the hardcore runners run in the street, and I'm always waiting for them to go down and end up under my car when they slip on the ice.

Run indoors. Please.

The sidewalks are very good everywhere I've been running, and I'm not one of those entitled assholes who thinks its ok to run in the street, so it's all good :)

My fear of running in winter before was more based on cold, and well... it's not when you're running.

I've always wanted to run. I get great satisfaction knowing I can actually run if I need to and it's the fastest way to burn fat and get in shape. However, with Fibromyalgia, it's extremely hard on my ligaments and muscle insertion points. I end up being in so much pain I cannot move the next day. So I can only do Yoga, walking and body rolling as machines tend to do the same thing. Maybe I should start walking outside eh?

As for winter activities, you've just been too busy partying it up with the Kundersolls! :>D Oh if I could go downhill skiing too. One of those things I've always wanted to do to, but never had the opportunity growing up in the south. Now it would be suicidal or at least paralyzing for sure!
